Rated as one of the top day hikes in the world! Active craters, land of fire. Be immersed in the spectacular scenery of emerald lakes and flowing lava.

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is located within Tongariro National Park – New Zealand’s oldest national park and a dual World Heritage Site. Located on the North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui) of New Zealand. The National Park is almost equidistant between both Auckland and Wellington, and takes a little over 4 hours to drive from either city to the park itself.

Like many other pacific islands, New Zealand’s is well known for its volcanic activity, and you can find over a dozen of them dotted across the north island alone. Tongariro is one of these volcanos.

Visitors arriving at the Tongariro National Park tend to stay overnight at one of the small villages around the park, or just inside the borders of the park itself.
